Use in ChatGPT & Claude
Connect Aether to ChatGPT
Add Aether to ChatGPT so you can search and update your knowledge base while you chat.
ChatGPT can connect to Aether through the Model Context Protocol. Today this is done through ChatGPT's Developer Mode, which is the current path for adding a custom connector by URL. A one-click directory listing is on the way — this page covers the path that works right now.
What you'll need
- A ChatGPT account on a paid plan. Developer Mode is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu.
- An Aether account — or none yet, since you can create a free one during the connect flow. No credit card required.
The Aether connector URL is:
https://mcp.aetherdb.ai/mcp
Turn on Developer Mode
Custom connectors live behind Developer Mode in ChatGPT:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps & Connectors.
- Open Advanced.
- Turn on Developer mode.
Why Developer Mode?
Developer Mode is how ChatGPT currently exposes adding a custom MCP connector by URL. It's the honest, supported way to connect Aether today while a one-click directory listing is pending. If you don't see these options, confirm your plan supports Developer Mode (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu).
Add the connector
In Apps & Connectors, add a new connector.
Paste the Aether connector URL:
texthttps://mcp.aetherdb.ai/mcpConfirm to add it. ChatGPT will hand you off to Aether to sign in.
Sign in and approve access
Adding the connector opens the Aether sign-in page in a secure browser flow — the same flow used everywhere Aether connects:
- Sign in or create your account. Sign in to your existing Aether account, or create a free one on the spot — no credit card required.
- Choose the workspace to connect. Pick the workspace you want ChatGPT to use. The connection is scoped to just that workspace.
- Approve access. Review the permissions — ChatGPT is requesting read and write access to that workspace's knowledge base, so it can search and save. Approve to finish.
ChatGPT can now search and update your Aether knowledge base in your conversations.
Sign-in, not API keys
Aether uses OAuth 2.1 for connectors. You sign in through your browser and approve access — you never paste an API key into the chat. See Manage your connection & privacy to review or revoke access later.
Try it
Start a conversation and ask ChatGPT to use your knowledge base. For example:
"Save this product brief to my Aether knowledge base."
"Search my Aether knowledge base for what we said about the onboarding flow."
See What you can do for more example prompts and the full list of connector capabilities.
Directory listing is coming soon
Adding Aether through Developer Mode is the current path. A one-click listing in ChatGPT's connector directory is on the way — when it lands, you won't need Developer Mode to connect.
